Chinese Carp Lidded | Ceramic Jar
A lidded jar in blue and white porcelain, with a carp worked into the glaze. The largest of the jars, and the one that reads as an object rather than storage — though it will happily be both.
It stands on its own: a hallway table, the end of a sideboard, the floor beside a chair. It doesn’t need company.

frequently asked
how big is it?
380mm tall and 350mm across at its widest, lid on. it's the biggest jar we carry and it's heavy — over 7kg — so it wants a solid surface or the floor rather than a shelf.
is it ceramic or porcelain?
porcelain, in the classic blue and white. the carp is in the glaze, not printed on, so the detail sits under the surface and won't wear.
can i keep things in it?
yes — the lid lifts off and there's plenty of room inside. dry things only: it isn't food safe and it isn't for liquids.
will mine look exactly like the photograph?
very close, but not identical where a glaze is reactive, speckled or graduated — those behave differently in every firing, which is the point of them. screen colours vary a little too. the dimensions on this page are accurate, so it's worth measuring your shelf before you order.
can i use it for food?
no. these are decorative pieces intended for light functional use — keys, jewellery, dried stems, that sort of thing. they aren't food safe, and they aren't dishwasher or microwave safe.
how do i clean it?
a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry it off. no abrasives, no bleach, no dishwasher — all three will dull the glaze permanently.
how is it packed for delivery?
wrapped and packed to travel. if it does arrive damaged, photograph the piece and the packaging and email home@fredahome.co.uk within 48 hours — we'll replace or refund it and cover the postage.
can i return it if it doesn't suit the room?
yes — within 14 days of delivery, unused and in its original packaging. return postage is yours unless the piece was damaged or faulty. see make a return.
how quickly will it arrive?
orders are packed and dispatched within 2–3 working days. uk delivery is free over £75, or £5.99 below that.
