frequently asked questions
everything we get asked most often — delivery, returns, and how to look after your pieces. if your question isn't here, get in touch and we'll answer it properly.
ordering
do i need an account to order?
no. you can check out as a guest. creating an account just means your details and order history are saved for next time.
can i change or cancel my order?
if you email home@fredahome.co.uk quickly we'll almost always catch it — orders are dispatched within 2–3 working days. once it's left us, treat it as a return instead.
how do i get 10% off my first order?
sign up to our emails and we'll send you a 10% code for your first order. it applies to full-price items and can't be used alongside another discount.
what payment methods do you take?
all the options available to you are shown at checkout, including major debit and credit cards. payment is taken securely by shopify — we never see or store your card details.
can i order something that's out of stock?
not at the moment. our ranges are bought in considered quantities, so pieces do sell out. email us the piece you're after and we'll let you know if and when it's back.
delivery
how much is delivery?
uk delivery is free on orders over £75. below that it's a flat £5.99, shown clearly at checkout before you pay.
how long will my order take?
orders are packed and dispatched within 2–3 working days. orders placed at a weekend or on a bank holiday are processed the next working day. estimated delivery times are shown at checkout and are a guide — couriers and weather occasionally have other ideas.
do you ship internationally?
not yet — we currently ship within the united kingdom only. we'd like to expand and we'll say so here when we do.
will i get tracking?
yes, where the service provides it. you'll get an email once your order is on its way. give the tracking a little time to update after dispatch — it often lags behind the parcel.
my order hasn't arrived — what now?
allow an extra working day or two beyond the estimate first, as most late parcels turn up. if it still hasn't landed, email home@fredahome.co.uk with your order number and we'll chase it.
how are fragile pieces packed?
ceramics, glass and diffusers are wrapped and packed to travel. if anything does arrive damaged, photograph it — item and packaging — and email us within 48 hours and we'll put it right.
returns
how long do i have to return something?
14 days from the day your order is delivered, in line with the uk consumer contracts regulations. items need to come back unused, unopened and in their original packaging, in a resaleable condition.
how do i start a return?
fill in the returns form before you post anything. the full step-by-step is on the make a return page.
can i return a diffuser or candle i've opened?
not unless it's faulty. for hygiene and safety reasons opened or used fragrance products can't be resold. if there's something wrong with it, tell us and we'll sort it — that's different.
who pays for return postage?
you do, unless the item arrived damaged, faulty or we sent the wrong thing — in which case we cover it. use a tracked service either way: until the parcel reaches us it's still your responsibility.
how long does a refund take?
once your return arrives we check it and email you to confirm. refunds go back to the original payment method and typically take 5–10 working days to show, depending on your bank. original delivery charges aren't refunded unless the item was faulty or incorrect.
my order arrived damaged
email home@fredahome.co.uk within 48 hours of delivery with your order number, a short description and clear photos of both the item and its packaging. don't post it back until you've heard from us.
can i exchange instead of refund?
yes — say so on the returns form and we'll do our best, subject to what's in stock at the time.
diffusers & candles
how long does a reed diffuser last?
it depends on the size and on your room. as a guide, a 500ml large diffuser gives around three to four months, and a 2000–2200ml extra large closer to nine to twelve. a 120ml mini is made for a bathroom or bedside and won't last as long.
warm rooms, draughts and open-plan spaces all use fragrance faster. fewer reeds makes it last longer; more reeds makes it stronger.
how do i use the reeds?
put all the reeds in, leave them an hour or two to draw the oil up, then turn them over once. after that, flip them every week or two to refresh the scent — that's all it needs.
wash your hands after handling reeds, and don't put used reeds back in the bottle.
where should i put my diffuser?
somewhere with a little air movement — a hallway, a landing, near a doorway — rather than a still corner. keep it out of direct sunlight and away from radiators, which will burn through the oil quickly.
stand it on a coaster or tray. fragrance oil can mark wood, painted surfaces and polished stone if it drips.
is it safe around children and pets?
keep diffusers and reeds out of reach of children and animals. the oil is an irritant if it's swallowed or gets on skin or in eyes. don't put one somewhere it can be knocked over.
which scent should i choose?
a rough steer:
- warm and grounding — petra (pink pepper, cedarwood, patchouli), smoke (wood, leather, birch), eulalia (moroccan amber)
- fresh and clean — onyx (island-inspired), salinas (citrus, wood, sea salt), florist (eucalyptus, rose, jasmine)
- soft and sweet — deia (sandalwood, vanilla, orange blossom)
living rooms and hallways take a warmer scent well; bedrooms and bathrooms usually suit something lighter.
how long does the bobble candle burn for?
approximately 45 hours.
on the first burn, let the wax pool reach the edges before you put it out — that sets the pattern for every burn after. trim the wick to about 5mm each time, don't burn it for more than four hours at a stretch, and never leave it unattended.
do you sell refills?
not currently. if refills become available we'll list them here.
ceramics & ornaments
are the pieces handmade?
several are, and some use reactive or gradient glazes that behave differently in every firing. that means small variations in tone, texture and finish from piece to piece. it isn't a fault — it's the reason they look the way they do.
can i use the bowls and jars for food?
they're designed as decorative pieces for light functional use — keys, jewellery, dried stems, that sort of thing. we don't recommend using them for food, and they aren't dishwasher or microwave safe.
can i put fresh flowers in the vases?
yes for the ceramic vases. for the rustic bobble cement vase we'd suggest a glass liner or dried stems, as cement is porous. stand any vase on a mat or coaster to protect the surface underneath.
how do i clean them?
a soft, slightly damp cloth, then dry it off. no abrasives, no bleach, no dishwasher — all three will dull a glaze permanently.
will the piece i receive look exactly like the photo?
very close, but not identical where a glaze is reactive or graduated. screen colours vary too. the dimensions listed on each product page are accurate — worth measuring your shelf before you order, especially for the larger ornaments and vases.
