FREDA HOME is live. We've launched with a first collection of reed diffusers, sculptural candles and glazed ceramics, sold direct through fredahome.co.uk.
FREDA is run by the two of us, Jake and Sophie, from our home on the Lancashire coast. Jake comes from a background in hotels and Sophie from marketing, and this is our first brand of our own.
The collection is deliberately small. Seven fragrances run across the diffuser range, in sizes from a £19.99 mini to £118 extra-large bottles made to scent a whole room, alongside glazed ceramic bowls, jars and ornaments priced between £16.95 and £139. Every piece is chosen by us and photographed in our own home.
Coming from hotels, you learn very quickly what people notice when they walk into a room. It's the smell first, then one or two objects that look like they belong there. FREDA is that, without the rest. We'd rather sell twenty things we'd put in our own house than two hundred we wouldn't.
The fragrance range takes its names from the Balearics — Deia, Eulalia and Salinas — alongside a smaller set of darker, smokier scents in Onyx, Smoke, Florist and Petra. The ceramics include the Olbia Pinecone, a large glazed ornament at £125, the Oval Bobble bowl at £79 and the Chinese Carp lidded jar at £139.
We've started with diffusers and ceramics because that's what we know sells and what we'd buy ourselves. Next we're moving into antique frames and vintage pieces, things you can't just order twenty of.
